If you want your open source project to be approachable to beginning contributors, you need more than the “good first issue” or “first timers only” label. In this talk, Linea will discuss how to make your open source project friendlier to beginners. As a beginner herself, and the maintainer of a project committed to giving beginners a warm welcome into open source, she knows the power of the word “we” and the happiness of merging a beginner's first pull request. Many beginners are too intimidated to get started, and doubt they have anything to contribute. Your project could benefit from getting them on board. They contribute a fresh perspective, and often arrive with skills outside coding, which can be leveraged to enhance your project. Making an open source project more available to beginners takes some work, but this talk will provide you with concrete tools to make your project more beginner friendly.
